Phonics at Ullesthorpe C of E Primary School
We teach phonics following the Read Write Inc scheme by Ruth Miskin. The children in Key Stage 1 participate in a daily phonics lesson, where they are taught the graphemes that represent the sounds in the English language. They learn to blend sounds for reading and segment sounds for writing. They are also taught to read words speedily and to remember common exception words.
How children progress with their phonic knowledge and skills is explained below. There are also some suggestions for helping your child learn phonics at home.
