Our priority is to nurture and support our pupils as they move into KS2 and recognise the step up that many feel between KS1 and KS2. We prioritise helping every one of them to be the very best that they can be and have a class agreement to help our classroom be a safe place where everyone feels respected and valued.
In Birch class, we aim to provide a rich and engaging curriculum which encourages a life-long love of learning in our children. Children in Birch Class will spend the Autumn Term swimming weekly and it is wonderful to see the progress that they make during these sessions.
We place a very high emphasis on the importance of reading and, as with all directed homework, we appreciate and depend upon the support of our parents to encourage and support a home-school learning partnership.
We will regularly communicate with our Birch class parents through emails and phone calls, but please do not hesitate to ask for a face-to-face meeting if any concerns or issues arise.
Key Information:
- Swimming in on a Tuesday in the Autumn term. Children are encouraged to wear their PE kit as it is easier for changing at the pool. Their swim bag should contain a towel, swimming costume (one piece swimsuit or trunks) and a swim hat. All children must wear a swimming hat in the pool.
- Our other PE lesson is on a Wednesday in the Autumn term. Please ensure children wear suitable PE clothing: dark shorts or joggers; white t-shirts; trainers; hair to be tied back; all jewellery removed including earrings.
- Homework is sent out weekly (sent home on a Friday to be returned the following Friday). It will include spelling, and an English and Maths activity as well as half termly optional topic based activities.
- Times-tables and small number addition and subtraction facts are an important part of our Maths curriculum (all 12 Times Tables should be secure by the end of Year 4) so we ask that the children practise these at home too.
- Our children are asked to read every day at home - including reading aloud at least three times a week to an adult. They should all have a class reading book as well as a school library book. They also have the opportunity to borrow a book through the Leicestershire Libraries Mobile Van.
Many thanks for your support in all that we do for our fantastic Year 3 and 4 children in Birch Class.
