What is safeguarding?

Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.

All organisations that work with or come into contact with children should have safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure that every child, regardless of their age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation, has a right to equal protection from harm.

Here at Ullesthorpe CE Primary School, safeguarding every child in our care is everyone’s highest priority. We wish to ensure that the children here are protected from maltreatment, neglect or abuse and that they grow up in an environment which is safe and effective, allowing them to have the best possible outcome.

Child protection is part of the safeguarding process and it is our duty of care to act upon any disclosures a child may share or to act upon concerns bought to us by the wider community.

We pride ourselves on our good relationships with parents and carers in our community, but regardless of this, any concern about a child will be taken seriously and advice will be sought from First Response, Social Services or the police.

We are also part of Operation Encompass. Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced domestic abuse. We can then act to support the child in school and ensure they have a safe space and a trusted adult to turn to.

Equally, community members are encouraged to report any concerns they have regarding the safety or treatment of a child in the community.

If you’re a friend, relative or neighbour of the child, you can contact First Response Children's Duty Team on 0116 305 0005 where you will be able to speak to a Social Worker about your worries. The Social Worker will discuss these with you and take as much information as possible. This can be done anonymously.
